Thank you for a MOST fantastic meal Thursday night! Ellen and I had one of the best meals we have had together! The trigger fish was spectacular and the shrimp & grits is by far one of our favorite dishes we have had! Fantastic service, fantastic food, and fantastic atmosphere. My first visit to The Blue Bicycle was an outstanding event. The night was nonpareil in service, food, atmosphere, & that jenesaisqua that all bistros seem to share. I had a Charcuterie plate as appetizer that had 8 different meats, pickled veggies, a sharp mustard, some apricot jam. The combination was an excellent balance of fat, sweet, & acid.
I chose the Prix fixe for dinner, with chevre salad, a fried quail, & scaloppini. Words are inadequate to describe the textures & tastes of each plate. The quail was marinated in buttermilk removing most, but not all its gaminess. It was then battered and fried and served piping hot. It was perhaps the best quail I have ever consumed. The salad was a blend of greens, walnuts, bacon, fried chevre, & a beautifully balanced vinaigrette that accentuated without dominating the flavors.
The main dish, the scaloppini, was served on a bed of spinach , with a generous portion of spaetzle, & a lemon sauce that was a perfect balance of acidity & complexity. The layers of flavors developed in each dish increased the dining pleasure to a truly sensual experience. I look forward to my next visit and recommend The Blue Bicycle to everyone looking for an excellent dining experience.
