St. Mary’s Hospital is a general medical and surgical hospital in Athens, GA, with 179 beds. It is also accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). If you are coming to St. Mary’s for an overnight stay, we want you to feel welcome. We know that, as an inpatient, you will have special needs and concerns. During your stay at St. Mary’s, our goal is to make you as comfortable as possible while providing the highest quality health care technology and service available.

St. Mary’s history of compassion and care for the people of Northeast Georgia dates back to 1906 — over 100 years. We have been in continuous operation since 1938 under the sponsorship of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, and since 2013, Catholic Health Ministries. Our values and mission flow from their devotion and service to God and humanity.

My experience with St. Mary’s hospital was fantastic. I went in there with lower abdominal pain and nausea. Eric, the nurse who helped take care of me, was polite and extremely helpful. He made sure I was as comfortable as I could be and even made sure I had everything I needed. Dr. Hicks was also fantastic. He listened to what I had to say and actually showed concern about what was going on with me. He eliminated all other possibilities to make sure he had the right diagnosis. Mr. Hamilton was also extremely nice and caring. He checked up on me several times while I waited for a ride back home. He would even stay and talk to me to make sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. They were all very helpful. I’m so glad I went to St. Mary’s hospital.

My labor here was beyond great and better than I ever could’ve imagined it I am truly grateful for the staff working in the birth center. My room was comfortable they were very attentive and went above and beyond for me I will never forget how much compassion was showed by the nursing staff & I was sad to leave. I can’t wait to tell my new baby in the future about my doctor and the amazing nurses that took care of me during and after my labor. Every shift change I met another woman that I will always remember for making something already great better. Can’t describe how grateful I am!!

My experience in the ER was exceptional. My staff was unbelievably attentive. The service was excellent. I didn’t have to wait for hours to see a doctor or even get test done. I’m not from Georgia and it was a scare that the doctor told me I needed immediate surgery. However, even though I refused treatment for this, they were really concerned. I was advised to go straight to the ER back home and that’s exactly what I did. I’m in the hospital now. Thank you, Chris, Scott and all the other staff that helped me in the early Thursday morning hours.

When you first go into the hospital you’ll deal with registration which totally is no good. When you go to the ERThey’re afraid to use the radiation department.I went to the emergency room with a pain in my leg and they told me it was muscular. Actually it was bone cancer misdiagnosedAlso if you put up any objection to the treatment you’re getting they’ll use official oppression and the in the house bodyguard And to enforceAnd to enforce theAnd to enforce the qualityAnd to enforce the quality workAnd to enforce the quality work that theyAnd to enforce the quality work that they do everywhereAnd to enforce the quality work that they do everywhere you go.please go elsewhere for treatment

After dealing with a horrible migraine in a different er all night, where I wasn’t taken very good care of, and was discharged hurting just as much as when I got there, i came to St. Mary’s literally in tears and horrible pain. The staff was more than awesome. Riane (one of the nurses) was super on top of things. Dr. Knott literally met me walking from triage to a room, and got orders put in for pain medicine at light speed! All of the staff truly appeared to care, and were all very compassionate and professional with the care I was given. I wish I could recognize each one Idividually (because they all deserve praise!)
Thank you for restoring some of my faith in humanity.

I can’t sing enough praise of the staff of the nursing and NICU departments! They’ve been amazing during our time here while I’ve given birth. Our son had some trouble with his blood sugar, and everyone has been so kind and thoughtful while we’ve been here.

I had surgery here and have several times. I love the fact that you are in a nice room getting ready for surgery. Love that you can watch tv and be with your family while you wait. The nurses in this area are great. They always get my IV right away when others can’t. You can tell these girls are so happy with their jobs and taking care of people. I would like to personally thank Ashley and Brenda in the short stay/pre operative area. They were the nicest nurses I’ve ever had. I hope these two nurses are valued by their management.
