Sam Huff opened BBQ-1 in 2004 as a weekend take out operation. Sam was a full time practicing attorney at the time and the intent was to have a place to cook for the growing number of charitable events, family gatherings, friends and civic organizations in which he was involved, as well as have a place to stage his long time hobby of cooking in barbecue competitions.

Around 2009, Sam phased out his law practice and began to devote his full time to the restaurant, teaching barbecue cooking classes known as Pork U, developing sauces and rubs commercially for retail sales and consulting in barbecue restaurant development. His second restaurant in West Cobb in the Village Green Shopping Center, across the street from The Avenues of West Cobb, on Dallas Highway opened in October 2013.

Depending upon which review you read, Sam’s BBQ-1 is the best barbecue in Metro Atlanta, North Georgia or the entire state. We consistently appear in Atlanta Magazine’s “A List“ and in their listing of Atlanta’s Top 50 Restaurants each year. Zagat gave us their highest food quality rating of any barbecue restaurant in Georgia, with only 2 barbecue operations in the country rated higher.

Favorite barbecue place! I always get the pulled pork sandwich with tater tots and mac and cheese! The pork has the best flavor and is always moist. Hands down the best tater tots I’ve ever had and the mac and cheese is so creamy and good! My whole family loves it and I even get take out here sometimes. Absolutely amazing!!

I love this place! It’s essentially a mirror of Dave Poe’s since Dave and Sam used to own a place together then broke up. I stop by here on my way home from my chiro sometimes and get takeout. The pork is excellent – succulent, flavorful and tender and the brisket is outstanding! Their sauce is great…really everything I’ve had here has been super tasty but the dish to die for is the redneck lasagna. Mac and cheese layered with Brunswick stew. And here’s where Sam’s differs form Dave’s – the stew is better. Dave’s is just ok. Sam’s is quite good. And that redneck lasagna? You will want to stick your face right in the container. It’s that good! They’ve started offering fried catfish on Fridays and I haven’t trie did yet but I’ve been craving some fried fish lately so that’s on the list for soon.

Awesome, awesome BBQ and sides! Best BBQ restaurant and second best to Fox Brothers in Atlanta. Highly recommend the mac & cheese, baked beans and seasonal chili as fantastic side options.

This is the first time I have being to this place, lived in Florida all my life and love BBQ. One of my favorites food is all types of BBQ, I have traveled a lot and had the chance to eat Louisiana BBQ! Texas BBQ, South Carolina and many mores. I am a very partial eater so I had my eyes on this place, the appearance outside is a little rough. The center in which is located is a little rough and old. If you go on a Sunday and are planning to eat there you better show up before 3 pm, after 3 is only take out menu. We showed up after 3 and looked around until I saw a side door in which people where coming in and out. I ordered their brisket, since I read it was good, some pork and some baked beans. Took everything home to try and I couldn’t believe how tasty it was, it was fresh and just amazing! I can’t wait to go back…will keep everyone posted. Please go you will not regret it….

Have only done takeout. Really excellent food. I’ve had the pulled pork, the brisket and the chicken. All amazingly good. So lucky it’s very close by!

Awesome food! Pulled pork is great, brisket was juicy and delicious, goes great with the fried okra. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. My favorite cashier is named Kenny, he’s always so happy to see me and never hesitates to get anything I need.

I have to admit, this BBQ joint is my favorite in all of Georgia so far!! I love their Brunswick Stew and ribs!!! Every time I think BBQ, I think of Sam’s! It’s just so perfect that my taste buds are hooked!! It’s that great that there’s nothing I can complain about! The pricing is reasonable and their service has always been great!

Old my god! The baby back ribs and the short ribs are simply amazing! Both are seasoned to perfection and so tender they nearly melt in your mouth! If you like Fox Brothers, you’ll Love Sam’s BBQ1.
