Who knew back in 1916, when James Mallis opened the first Nu-Way Weiner stand on Cotton Avenue in Macon, Georgia, that he had created a chili dog that would become an eating obsession? The original store with its neon sign is still in operation today, continuing to serve the same secret recipe chili sauce and private label weiners. Nu-Way is the second oldest hot dog restaurant in the United States.

We invite you to try our famous hot dogs at our nine locations in Central Georgia and experience the traditional taste of Nu-Way. The rest will be history. Thanks to the misplacing of a few vowels by a local sign-maker, Nu-Way has intentionally misspelled Weiner on its marquee since 1937. Nu-Way’s fascinating history is the subject of a book by Ed Grisamore entitled “There Is More than One Way to Spell Wiener.

Nu-way is special. The food is excellent and value great. The sad part is that the original location is no more, so this is more about nu-way generally, but still true. The hot dogs are bar none the best. The chili, the slaw, the onions, the mustard are all perfect. Yes, the dogs are red, that’s part of the charm. Get a drink with the flaky ice and you’ll be amazed at how the ice makes the drink special. Just go, you’ll be happy.

Absolutely the best little red chili dog in Macon. All the way or plain. Great slaw dog. The chili burgers are awesome as well. The fries are good too. And you must try the breakfast – great biscuits with whatever you want on it. They have great shakes too. Very similar to varsity in Atlanta.

Order them “all the way”. Mmmmm – delicious!!! I bought 20 double wrapped for the freezer. They freeze well, so you can enjoy them for quite a while.
