Visiting Atlanta for the first time, I was strongly encouraged to dine at Fat Matt’s for BBQ by friends. This institution is casual, laid back and serving up some mouthwatering grub. We ordered a full rack of ribs, mac & cheese and the rum baked beans. It was enough to share and very satisfying. We arrived before the dinner rush so ordering was easy and the food was delivered instantly. While indulging, there was a local blues band playing which made the experience much more enjoyable. Overall, I highly recommend and can’t wait to go back for some more melt off the bone ribs!

This place is my favorite rib shack. I love how their ribs are fall off the bone with just the right amount of smokiness. Their rum beans are to die for. Their potato salad is really good too, but you can’t leave without their sweet tea! (The secret but not so secret is to mix it with lemonade) There’s limited seating and it’s very difficult to find parking here. This place is almost always packed, but it’s just that good!

Got here early on Sunday. Plenty of parking, no long lines. Ordered the full rack of ribs, cole slaw, baked beans, Brunswick stew, collard greens. Everything was fantastic! I’m a transplant originating in GA now in LA, had a craving for good ol’ southern BBQ this place does not disappoint. The rib are perfectly smoked and cooked, the sauce a tomato base with a vinegar and spicy kick. Highly recommend this place to anyone who lives in the A or coming here to visit.

Oh yeah! What a wonderful experience from Fat Matt’s! Their ribs were deep to bone flavorful and filling. We are very satisfied with it and the sides were delicious too, the mac n cheese don’t fail to get very cheesy and creamy.
Service was on point, though the place has been filled with customers, we are still able to be seated promptly and has the best spot to eat. The meat was well-seasoned and cooked until its falling down from the bones.
This place is a must and you should not forget to take a bite in this area. Thumbs up.

So I don’t know how to express via my verbiage the absolute quality, service, deliciousness and just all around satisfying experience I had here at Fat Matt’s Rib Shack. As a foreigner residing in the states who thoroughly enjoys trying new places (especially local favorites) and has had a childhood love for ribs, my expectations were none other than high for this meal. Well, Fat Matt’s gets a 100/100. Their ribs melted off the bone right into my mouth, giving my taste buds a tantalizing euphoria and overall dopamine effect because in that moment I had not been happier. The wait time was maybe 10minutes for our meal to arrive and from entrance to exit, the service was first class.
I got roasted peanuts as my side and well who does not enjoy this home classic side? I even took them home to add into my ice cream, but that’s for another review ;)

This place has excellent for and excellent music. The ribs were smoked to fall off the bone perfection. I believe they use st louis style ribs instead of baby backs, which give you a lot more delicious meat and fat. Their sauce is a slightly spicy, which I love, and just the right sweetness. Not too sweet, but it’s there, which in my opinion is the way to go. I had the brunswick stew and it was packed full of meat like it should be. The baked beans were good, but a little too sweet for my tastes. The service was on point as well. The prices were a little steep, but I understand it for the area. I will be returning soon to try their pulled pork.

Never get to come here as often as I like but boy it is a treat when we go. Since my husband is still fairly new to Atlanta, there are a lot of places he wants to visit. This was one of them. We each ordered a pulled pork sandwich with chips and got a half a slab of ribs to share with a side of collards and bourbon beans. The sandwich was so good. The sauce is killer. It was tangy and a bit spicy, just plain good. The collards were dangerous, added a few shakes of hot sauce on them and by the time we made our way to the slab of ribs I felt a nap creeping in. Great place to go chill and eat.

Fantastic place to get a good meal. There’s something here for everyone! Coming from a vegetarian that’s saying something! The sides are out of this world. My top recommendations would have to be the macaroni and cheese and the potato salad– absolutely delicious. The outside seating allows for a fun environment and there’s plenty of space inside for big groups. A must try!

If you have never been to this establishment, you are missing out on one of the oldest gems in the Atlanta area. Customer service is to the point but top notch, makes you feel like you are going to a hometown spot. The live music never disappoints and makes the wait time fly by. Very busy place so plan to wait in line for a bit but WELL worth the wait! Ribs and slaw are my go to. Several quality brews to enjoy while you wait. They refuse to hand you cold food so know that when you are placing an order for pick up they will still be preparing it after you arrive. I have been a long time customer and try to swing by whenever convenient, always grabbing extra for leftovers the next day!

One of Atlanta’s hidden jewels. The food was amazing and so was the customer service. They have live music and it was very entertaining. The only downside is there’s not enough space. The seats fill up quick and you can’t sit down until you place your order. Be sure to have cash for tips because you will definitely want to tip the waiters and waitress, they were amazing. My glass always stayed full. I will be going back again and again

My boyfriend and I ate here two days in a row, last Saturday and Sunday. We were that impressed. On our first visit, I had 1/4 bird, rum baked beans and greens; bf had the combo of bird and ribs with double sides of macaroni. It’s a small lot, parking is risky and it’s small inside; busy but we didn’t have trouble ordering fairly quickly, finding a table and having our food come out. Our older male waiter was very attentive. Second visit, I ordered the same thing but 1/2 bird; bf got the 1/2 bird and double macaroni. Our food didn’t come out as fast as the day before and our younger waiter wasn’t as attentive but we didn’t wait longer than necessary and the service wasn’t bad. We will definitely continue to come here.

I love this place! The bbq chicken with collard greens and naked beans is my favorite thing to order. The staff is always friendly and the customer service is great. They do have lines throughout the day but it’s worth the wait. The restaurant is pretty small compared to the amount of business they get which is a great indicator of what you’re getting food wise. There are no reservations it is first come first served. They do have a patio so nice nights would be ideal. Live music is usually at night. The pictures on the walls give you a bit of history about the place. If you feel like getting some delicious bbq but not making it yourself or being around the in laws definitely check it out!

The restaurant has a super small town vibe, not much parking, and seating is limited (even on weekdays) but don’t let that deter you! From the second you walk in, you can tell by the aroma that the food is going to be good. I enjoyed the side dishes (coleslaw and Mac & Cheese) but the ribs were honestly the best I’ve ever had. Seriously, try them! You won’t regret it.

Good BBQ is determined by how the meat is cooked, and the flavor. Anyone can learn to cook BBQ by watching YouTube, but a good BBQ sauce takes 10+ years to develop. Fat Matt’s has some of the best BBQ sauce I’ve ever had. Period. And I’ve had a lot of BBQ. I bought 3 bottles of sauce. Oh and the food is great. Get the combo, and go to Nirvana. The staff is also very friendly. 11/10 would go again.
