El Cotija restaurants are named after the small town of Cotija located in Michoacán, a Mexican state with a population of 18,207. Known for its cheese, Cotija cheese put the name of Cotija on the world map. This quiet, sleepy town is also the birth place of many religious figures to include Saint Rafael Guízar Valencia and Father Marcial Maciel. Its peaceful streets lead to the center of town where a church of astonishing beauty awaits.

A short walk to the many surrounding hills offers breath-taking views of the city with its narrow streets and red-tile roofs topped off with its imposing church. For a minute, one may think that one is watching a piccolo villaggio in Tuscany, Italy. People of Cotija are men and women of deep religious faith, which has been manifested in various pious traditions and in the flowering of priestly and religious vocations.

We visit this place often. My favorite item is the fried burritos. They are cooked perfectly and are always hot and very tasty. The chips and salsa are very good as well.

I came here for lunch one day and enjoyed my meal. We sat outside on the patio. The chips and salsa we good and I had 2 tacos. I enjoyed my meal for sure.

Our family loves to eat here. The house special, special nachos & quesadillas are all favorites. The salsa is very mild, but we also like the cheese dip. The atmosphere & service are wonderful. I’ve only been once in about 50 visits where there was an issue. We love eating on the patio in spring & fall. Great location! We just can’t get enough of this place! Out of town guests visiting us have loved it as well!

We have eaten at this restaurant several times and for different occasions such as birthdays, graduations and the food tastes great. The waiters and waitresses are very cordial and will even sing happy birthday with a surprise dessert after you finish eating.

I was very impressed with the food and the service at El Cotija. The kitchen staff did an excellent job of “constructing” my typical mixing/matching of entrees and ingredients customized to my own personal taste. Very few Mexican restaurants are ever able to perfectly prepare my combination just the way I like it but they managed to accomplish it with precision accuracy.
