In the summer of 1977, John and Asiemoula Papadopoulos opened up their first Athens Pizza House in Decatur and it has been a local favorite ever since. People in the Atlanta area have grown up on Athens Pizza. Even after a major face lift in 1991, the food has not changed, and it still hasn’t to this day, and neither has the spirit of the founders. The same delicious recipes are used, and even some new ones have been introduced and loved.

Athens Pizza has always been proud to say that they are a family restaurant, from the owners to the patrons. We have always been family owned and operated, and even though our founding father, John, passed away in 2002, Asiemoula and their youngest son Sandy continue to make sure that the spirit of the Papadopoulos family emanates. You can still taste the love that we put in our food, the same way we did from our days in Putnam, Connecticut.

We love to hear stories of our long time customers, from not only the Atlanta area, but from those that have moved from Atlanta to all points across the country, and the memories that we’ve helped them have over the past 35 years. We hope to continue to serve the Atlanta community, and establish even more memories for all of our loyal customers, as well as our new customers.

We hope you enjoy your visit with us, as many others have in the past, and will in the future. It is because of our incredible customers that this family restaurant, started by two Greek immigrants, has been a long-standing Atlanta tradition. We hope to continue to pass our legacy on to future generations, and make even more pleasant memories full of great food and great family atmosphere!

Favorite pizza restaurant for 35 years. It doesn’t get any better than Athens. I’ve never had a bad meal here, and whenever I’m back in Atlanta, I’ll pop in.

Consistent. Friendly. Amazing. What more can I say?
Despite what you may have read from the naysayers, I will tell you Athens Pizza is home of -the best- Greek food and some of the best pizzas in the Atlanta area. They have been in business forever and my parents say that the food has always been great. Seriously, when I can take my grandmother out to a restaurant and she says ‘this is just how I remember it’ – you can believe the hype!

I recommend the Santorini Special Pizza (do yourself a favor and add extra artichoke), Gyros (platter and wrap) are always made just right, get the Athens Potatoes as your side. The “Large Greek Salad” is enough for two/three, and the dressing is fantastic. The Mediterranean Pizza is as close to a Swedish style kebab pizza you will find in this area. If you are feeling up for desert, grab a Chocolate Mousse Mouse – Seriously. Diabeetus. Amazing, amazing diabeetus.

Great neighborhood spot, kid friendly. Good pizza and gyros – in fact, get the Mediterranean pizza with GTRI on it so you don’t have to choose.

I have lived in this area a few years and I can always count on Athens pizza for great takeout. In particular I always order a gyro feta pizza with extra sauce (their sauce is amazing) cooked crispy. I’ve worked at pizza restaurants for years and I can tell you this is the best pizza I’ve ever had, and at a reasonable price. Maybe there’s better pizza in Atlanta, but I just don’t care.

First time here today and LOVE IT! The owner is a sweet heart. Made us feel like family. Service was so warm. And the food… OMG! Best pizza I’ve ever had, and I’m from Chicago and know good pizza. Definitely coming back here for more. The gyro appetizer was so savory too. Love love love this place!
